DHIGURAH, IN A NUTSHELL
True to its namesake, “dhigu” meaning long and “rah” meaning island, Dhigurah is a long stretch of land residing in South Ari Atoll (Alif Dhaalu) with a population of over 600 locals, who are friendly and accommodating.
Quiet little lanes lined with flowering plants are scattered throughout the island. An island with a considerably long beach that connects with a sandbank, most of Dhigurah is abundant with local flora.
The lagoon surrounding the island hosts a large population of turtles, manta rays and whale sharks throughout the year, making Dhigurah a coveted spot for thalassophiles.
THINGS TO DO IN DHIGURAH
Dhigurah, by nature, is a quiet island. Only during the evenings would you see the locals out and about, enjoying the golden hour by the beach. The everyday life of the locals is slow, humble and gratifying; a rarity in the world right now. Explore the island and get some nice shots of the locals, bougainvillaea strewn quaint little lanes and fiery Maldivian sunsets.
The designated bikini beach is heaven for those who enjoy relaxing at the beach with a book and getting a tan while taking a nap. And take a secluded romantic trip to the neighbouring sandbank and have a picnic with your loved one as the gentle laps of the waves and bird calls
serenade you.
Go diving and snorkelling to see the vibrant underwater wildlife of the Dhigurah lagoon, including manta rays and whale sharks. Watch the passing dolphins, fish and bbq your catch for dinner with the locals and take a turn around the island on a jetski or canoe and see it all from a
novel point of view.
